Urban waterway environment
Hobart is fortunate to have an extensive riparian and freshwater environment as part of the stormwater system.
At the upper ends of most catchments, and some sections within the City, the open rivulets from an integral part of the ecosystems and the community.
Because of this, the system needs to be managed to channel flow and mitigate flood risk, as well as to maintain and improve the riparian, freshwater and Derwent estuary ecosystems, and sustain the recreational, spiritual and aesthetic values of our City.
This includes a holistic management approach to water quality, the riparian and in-stream environments, on both public and private sections of our waterways.
