Reducing the City's energy use
The City of Hobart has improved the energy efficiency of its operations and buildings and now saves over $1 million a year in electricity costs alone.
We also reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 68% from 2000 to 2020. Most of this reduction was through actions taken at McRobies Gully Waste Management Centre to reduce landfill gas emissions.
We have committed to a further reduction target of 20% for greenhouse gas emission reductions from 2020 to 2030.
For more information on our emissions, energy use and recent reduction activities see the Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energy Use Annual Report 2019-20(PDF, 2MB).
To learn more about the City's plans for further energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions, have a look at our operational Energy Savings Action Plan 2018-2020(PDF, 2MB).
We conduct regular reviews of environmental issues across all of our activities and have an environmental management system that is third-party certified under ISO 14001.
