Australian Antarctic Festival

Australian Antarctic Festival

The Australian Antarctic Festival is on again this year, August 22–25, at various locations across Hobart’s waterfront.

The Mawson’s Huts Foundation does an incredible job of bringing together our Antarctic sector to showcase the scale and significance of our world-leading Antarctic capabilities.

Families can experience this magical place from afar while learning about the incredible Antarctic research and science we do in Hobart.

Discover how our researchers and expeditioners live and work in the Southern Ocean and on the ice.

As a proud gateway city, the City of Hobart is a major partner of this free community festival and will run a number of exciting events.

  • Grab a map and hunt for Gateway Cities across the festival. When you find one, collect your special stamp!
  • Come along to a special screening of the family favourite ‘Happy Feet’.

Bring your warm jackets and a blanket and find a spot among the penguin rookery. Popcorn and food trucks will be there to keep you warm and fed.

More information can be found on the Australian Antarctic Festival website.
