Together for Harmony, Conversations to Inspire Change

Together for Harmony

Racism is more prevalent in our community than we would like to believe and it's a difficult topic to discuss.

These events on The International Day for The Elimination of Racial Discrimination will involve Leaders on the subject and people with lived experience.

The WALK

Where: A walk from the Hobart Waterfront (in front of The Grand Chancellor) to Parliament Lawns for a media launch.
When: 11 am - 12 pm
Register: Facebook

Join the Walk to launch a new 'anti-racism campaign' proposed by the CEO of Brighton Council, James Dryburgh, in order to highlight an increase in reports of racist behaviours in our community and an aligned increase in fear within migrant communities. James called upon Greater Hobart Councils to work together to stand against racism in our community.

The Campaign message:

"asks all Tasmanians to stand together against racism, reiterates our joint commitment that racist behaviour will not be tolerated and is detrimental to our desire for an inclusive, healthy and vibrant lutruwita, Tasmania, and gives real suggestions on how to stand together against racism."

The Campaign has the power to unite Councils and community and demonstrate a powerful, aligned approach around our shared commitment to unity, diversity and inclusion.

The Walk will be led by First Nations Palawa and include CEO’s and Lord Mayors from Hobart, Glenorchy, Clarence, Sorrel, Kingborough, Brighton, and students from High Schools and Colleges. Everyone from all municipalities are welcome to participate and attend.

Following the 'Walk' to Parliament Lawns, a 'Talk' hosted by the City of Hobart will take place with a panel of experts and community representatives discussing 'Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination'.

The FILM and TALK

This event will commence with a FILM launch of Our Journey, a short-film by Students Against Racism.

About Our Journey

Our Journey is a short film written, shot and edited by 16 young people from multicultural backgrounds with the support and direction of Lara van Raay.

In this film we share our stories of leaving our homelands, travelling to Australia and the ups and downs of settling in Hobart. We want to be honest. We want to connect with you. We want to have a real conversation about our lives. We want you to understand who we are and where we have come from. We want you to know these things about us.
