Track difficulty and grade system

Track difficulty and grade system

Tracks are graded to indicate what to expect when walking or riding.

This includes the track surface, steepness, obstacles, and level of experience recommended to enjoy the track.

Please familiarise yourself with the grades and be aware of your own abilities.

Walking and running tracks

The difficulty of walking and running tracks vary from those suitable for wheelchairs, to steep and unformed tracks where navigation skills are necessary.

Riding tracks

Track difficulty and grade system

Riding tracks use the same grading scale, but the descriptions also provide advice on what type of bike should be used.

Some riding tracks, like the Intercity Cycleway from Hobart to Glenorchy, are very easy to ride and suitable for beginners on any type of bike.

The difficulty of mountain biking tracks can vary greatly, and it is very important to make sure you're aware of the grade of the track, quality of your bike, and your own skills.
