School Based Immunisation Program for Year 10 students
There is an ongoing Commonwealth-funded program as part of the National Immunisation Program for Meningococcal ACWY, which will be offered every year for Year 10 students.
The vaccine provides protection against the meningococcal A, C, W and Y strains. Only a single immunisation is required. This vaccine does not protect against the B strain. There is a separate vaccine for the B strain which is available through private prescription.
Parents of eligible students will receive a consent form pack from their school to fill in and return. Parents and schools will be notified of vaccination days/times as soon as these have been allocated and details will also be posted on this webpage.
All Year 10 students can receive a dose of Nimenrix even if they have received a Meningococcal ACWY vaccine in the past. There must be a gap of at least 8 weeks since the last dose of the vaccine. Repeat vaccination can offer a benefit by boosting immunity, and does not increase the risk of experiencing side effects.
If you do not wish your child to be vaccinated please sign the consent form in the "no" box and return to your school.

Missed vaccinations
If your child has missed their dose at school or prefers to receive it at a pharmacy, authorised pharmacist immunisers, working in full-scope programs and approved by the Department of Health, can now administer SBIP vaccines. This is an excellent option for parents who are either hesitant about school immunisation or need to arrange catch-up vaccinations.
To assist, we've provided a list of local pharmacies approved to administer the SBIP vaccines. We recommend contacting the pharmacy beforehand to ensure the pharmacist immuniser is available and the required vaccines are in stock.
