Mayoral Reception - 1st Anniversary of Punjabi Society
The Lord Mayor held a reception for the Punjabi Society of Tasmania in celebration and recognition of their first anniversary and the incredible work they have done in such a short time to promote cultural awareness and foster connection and inclusivity in the Hobart community.
In just one year, the Punjabi Society of Tasmania has already had a tremendous impact, putting on some beautifully vibrant cultural celebrations like Vaisakhi Mela attended by the Governor Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker, a Punjabi Sports Mela, Diwali and Bhangra dance classes.
The motto for the Society is "Together We Thrive".
The Punjabi Society were the recipients of the Lord Mayor's Awards at the 2024 Hobart Christmas pageant Awards. This award is presented to an entry that best demonstrates community spirit. That expresses togetherness and friendship, as well as showing a lot of joy and pride in their organisation.
