Capital City Strategic Plan 2023
The Capital City Strategic Plan 2023 is the City of Hobart’s primary planning document and outlines the outcomes the City is aiming to achieve over a ten-year period in response to the community vision - Hobart: A community vision for our island capital.
The Capital City Strategic Plan 2023 is a review of the 2019-29 Plan. The Local Government Act 1993 requires that all local governments prepare a ten-year strategic plan that must be reviewed every four years. This review in 2023 is timely as there have been many social and economic changes since the 2019 Plan was developed.
The review helps us to respond to the major challenges we face now and be prepared for the future of our growing city. It will be used to develop the City of Hobart's long-term strategies, set priorities, and guide practical decision-making. The review also identifies challenges, opportunities and corporate priorities that will have major impacts on the future of the city and its governance.
The Plan continues to have a strong focus on the collective ownership of Hobart that community members feel and commits the City to safeguarding the sense of place people feel and what they value most.

The City of Hobart has a lead role in the implementation of this Plan but many opportunities and challenges facing Hobart now and in the future are complex and beyond our direct control. To deliver the outcomes in this Plan and the aspirations in the community vision we will collaborate and partner with other councils, the Tasmanian Government, the Australian Government, industry and community. We also seek to advocate for change on issues that are important to the community.
