The Tasmania JackJumpers are working towards an exciting pageant presence when Australia’s basketball champions make their debut at the 42nd Myer City of Hobart Christmas Pageant.

The JackJumpers will bring their unique brand of joy to the Christmas Pageant and the expected 15 000 spectators and 2000 participants.

JackJumpers Head of Community Frances Lockhart said there was great excitement about the 23 November event, especially for club mascot Jack the Jumper.

"The JackJumpers love getting involved in all different community engagement events, and something like the Hobart City Council Christmas Pageant is perfect for us," Ms Lockhart said.

"Jack the Jumper is one of a kind — he's so lovable, and he loves getting into the holiday spirit and involving all different members of the community to have fun and bring joy."

Ms Lockhart said plans had not been locked in but said excitement was building on what they would bring to the event.

"We haven't finalised the details of our float yet, but we hope it's something really special, something that involves all of the 15 000 people expected at the pageant," she said.

"We look forward to spreading joy and having a lot of fun on the day.

"Be careful, though — Jack is very cheeky.

"He might just steal your chips or hat if you're not looking."

Santa himself was also on hand at the announcement and couldn't contain his excitement.

"I love coming down here to see all the little boys and girls," Santa said.

"It's a busy time, but the joy it brings makes it all worth it. And the JackJumpers are a big part of Tasmania now."

Santa had one last message for everyone: "Children, be good!"

With the JackJumpers on board, this year's Christmas Pageant is sure to be one to remember.

Expressions of Interest are now open for 40 top groups to participate, with awards to be presented for categories such as Best Christmas Themed Entry, Best Community Entry, and Best Musical or Dance Performance.

For more information or to apply, visit the Christmas Pageant page or contact us at events@hobartcity.com.au or 03 6238 2890.

Applications close on Monday 9 September 2024.
