Taste of Summer
This has to be one of our top picks, simply for the waterfront location, the great food and wine, and the rock legend entertainment on offer.
Fresh pasta anyone? Pizzirani's Cucina, will be cooking up traditional dishes with a spin and you can say hello to their 84 year old Nonna, who will be expertly making your handmade pasta in the traditional Italian way. Match with a glass of Tasmanian wine and follow with one of the many locally crafted gins on offer.
Then, party on with the Hoodoo Gurus, as they belt out their classics, including What's My Scene, Wipeout! and Come Anytime. Don't forget to get your tickets early! These will sell out fast.

Street Eats @ Franko
Street Eats is a total local favourite and enjoyable for all ages. For those non-local and not in the know, Street Eats is legendary. Imagine a beautiful urban city park, complete with water fountain and majestic trees, transformed into a petite evening festival, full of delicious and piping-hot street food, live music and colourful picnic rugs on the lawns.
Self-described as a 'hyperactive inner-city night food+drink market with a rotating cast of eclectic musical acts to keep you fed, watered + grooving'. That just about sums it up!
Kids can run around and dance, adults can enjoy themselves, and it's got everything you need. Open from 4 – 11 pm, which gets you right in the groove, then head to the waterfront to watch the fireworks.

Family fireworks at the Regatta Grounds
It wouldn't be New Year's Eve without fireworks lighting up the Derwent River. If you are looking for a nice spot for the family, with lots of space and a great view over the water, bring a picnic rug to the Regatta Grounds to watch the fireworks. This spot allows for children and families to enjoy themselves in a safe and relaxed way, out of the party-zone. There'll be food vans or you can bring a picnic. There's free parking and public toilets nearby.
The first firework show will spark off at 9.30 pm and then you can toodle the little ones off to bed or stay on for midnight too. There's a shuttle bus to and from the waterfront if you'd like to get up close to the party.

Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race Village
What could be nicer than an evening waterfront visit to the docks, to see the Hobart to Sydney racing yachts in all their glory. Viewing these legends of the sea up close is always delightful and you might even have the opportunity to rub shoulders with a few of their sea faring crew.
There will be live music, activities for kids, Q&As on stage, and delicious food and drink from a wide variety of vendors. Although most of the boats will have already come in by New Years, there is always the possibility to see a few late arrivals and cheer them home.
