Don't let the late winter doldrums bring you down, with plenty happening in Hobart to get you out and about.

1. Beaker Street

An event where scientists take centre stage and late-night conversations can change the world. Welcome to Beaker Street Festival, a week-long celebration of science and art in Lutruwita/Tasmania from 6-13 August. The festival offers a mix of wonder, fun, and discussions on today's hottest topics, all set against the backdrop of Tasmanian environments and culture.

2. Safe Night Space

Help those who help others. Hobart City Mission invites you to visit our Safe Night Space shelter. You can see where Tasmanians experiencing homelessness stay safe, hear from City Mission staff about homelessness, learn how we can address the crisis together, and tour the heritage building. Join us the City Mission on 9-10 August to learn more about this important issue.

3. Cosy Carb Club

Feast away to your heart (or stomach) is content at the Cosy Carb Club. From pasta to pizza, bread to potatoes, carbs are the ultimate comfort food for those chilly Hobart nights. Check out the range of restaurants and be part of this happy club.

4. Australian Antarctic Festival

The Australian Antarctic Festival celebrates Hobart's status as a leading gateway to Antarctica and recognises the Antarctic community's contributions to Tasmania's economy and social fabric. Running from 22-25 August, you can experience the Antarctic in Hobart through exhibitions, open days, school excursions, and entertainment. Meet the expeditioners, scientists, tradespeople, chefs, communications experts, and technicians who work in the coldest, driest, and windiest place on earth.

5. Book & Vinyl Fair

Lifeline Tasmania presents the Inaugural Book & Vinyl Fair, featuring a vast selection of literary and musical gems. Enjoy a wide range of genres, win door prizes, and discover autographed Tassie books. Gold coin donations are welcomed to support Lifeline Tasmania's local initiatives and enhance our community's well-being. It is on 3-4 August at the UTAS Activities Centre.

6. Olympics Live Site

Join us at the Olympics Live Site in Wellington Court. This site, now in action, features a large display screen broadcasting the coverage of the Paris Olympic Games, providing an exciting opportunity for city shoppers, families, and workers to cheer on the Australian athletes and immerse themselves in the Olympic spirit. It will run weekdays until Friday, 9 August.

7. Street to Stage

Street to Stage is a live event for local musicians with experience of homelessness, giving them a chance to perform, gain skills, and potentially win recording time. Everyone is invited to support the performers and enjoy the music. The event raises awareness about homelessness, reduces stigma, and funds Health with Dignity, providing free GP appointments for those in extreme need. It is on Saturday, 10 August, at Youth ARC (1 Market Place, Hobart).

8. Salamanca Market

And as always, one of Hobart's greatest institutions, the Salamanca Market, is on every Saturday for all your arts, crafts, local produce, and lots of things you haven't thought of.
