Visitors urged to follow safety signs on the mountain
Published on 27 June 2018
Visitors to kunanyi / Mount Wellington are being urged to stick to walking tracks that are open and safe to use while the City of Hobart completes the final stages of the Great Short Walk Rejuvenation Project.
While most visitors have shown great patience during the project there have been reports of people ignoring safety restrictions and physical barriers on Pinnacle Track, endangering their own safety and that of track workers.
Pinnacle Track will remain closed to the public until work is completed and the newly-built path has bedded down. It is expected to re-open in September 2018.
Unless it is closed for helicopter operations, walkers can still make the trek from The Springs to the summit by following Lenah Valley Track, turning left onto Sawmill Track and then heading up the Zig Zag Track via the southern section of the Organ Pipes Track.
Visitors can also explore the Organ Pipes Track, which re-opened in March as part of the Great Short Walk Rejuvenation Project.

North-South Track
Restrictions have also been put in place at the Clapper Bridge on the North-South Track after the May storm sent a lot of water and rocks down New Town Rivulet, carving out at dangerous, 4-metre crater around the stone bridge. The City plans to re-route the track upstream but until then this area remains off-limits for safety reasons.
Signs and barriers have been put in place to keep track workers and visitors safe on the mountain.
