A new council for the City of Hobart
Published on 04 November 2022
From the Lord Mayor, Anna Reynolds:
The completion of the recent local government elections summons a new council and new voices for the City of Hobart.
But before we look to the future, first we must acknowledge the work, dedication and commitment of the elected members of the previous council.
To Jeff Briscoe, Damon Thomas, Jax Fox and Will Coats – thank you for your contribution to civic duty and to the Hobart City Council.
Mr Briscoe served on council since 1994 in a number of roles and committees, most recently as chair of parks and recreation, while Mr Thomas has been on council from 2009, including a term as Lord Mayor from 2011-2014.
Mx Fox and Mr Coats were both in their first term, but that does not limit the impact they had on this city and the community.
However, the new council term marks a fresh start for the Hobart City Council and a chance to recalibrate and reset on where we want to take our Capital city into the future, while building on the strong foundations of the past.
The residents of Hobart have elected us to work collegially and cooperatively for the betterment of them and the city, and I look forward to the next term striving to achieve this goal with my fellow councillors and aldermen.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Councillor Helen Burnet on being returned as Deputy Lord Mayor and again I look forward to continuing to build on our strong working relationship.
Lastly, I would like to thank the people of Hobart on giving me the opportunity to serve again as Lord Mayor of the city I love.
It is a great honour and privilege to be elected as a representative of the community you live in, and I will do my upmost to represent the people of Hobart to the best of my ability.
Note: The new Council will be sworn in at a ceremonial event on November 7 and the first meeting of the new City of Hobart Council will be on November 21.
