Black Spot improvements on the way for Battery Point
Published on 29 June 2018
The City of Hobart will be building a new pedestrian island, increased lighting and kerb bulbing at the intersection of Montpelier Retreat and Kirksway Place.
The project also includes new seating, flower beds, two new bicycle racks, an upgrade to the existing footpath surface, and new line marking.
The improvements are designed to increase safety for pedestrians crossing this wide intersection. The project is jointly funded by the Federal Black Spot Program and the City of Hobart.
The Black Spot Program provides funding to projects that aim to improve safety at locations where a high number of crashes and near misses occur, in addition to proactive safety improvements to higher risk locations.
Work will start on Monday, 2 July, and will take between three to four weeks to complete. There may be occasional lane closures during the day, but there will be minimal disruption to the traffic flow. Construction will take place on week days only.
