Habitat Burning - Knocklofty Reserve

Update: Due unsuitable weather conditions the planned hazard reduction burn in Knocklofty Reserve has been postponed.

All planned burns are weather dependent, and may be postponed in the case of adverse weather or changed wind conditions.

The City of Hobart undertakes an annual program of hazard reduction burns throughout the Hobart, in order to reduce the risk of bushfire. The Autumn 2018 program started in April, with a large burn in Knocklofty Reserve scheduled to take place in May.

Knocklofty Reserve is one of Hobart's favourite public reserves, and is widely used by the public.

While we do work to reduce smoke levels, people with asthma and other respiratory conditions should be prepared for some smoke to be present throughout Hobart during hazard reduction burns.

The City of Hobart's fire team goes to extraordinary lengths to protect not just public assets but the unique bushlands surrounding the city. We use fire to protect forests, woodlands, improve the health of native grasslands and protect and improve habitat for native wildlife.
