Hobart getting ready for the big sing!
Published on 28 June 2024
The City of Hobart is continuing its support for the Festival of Voices, running from June 28 to July 7, 2024, via a $70,000 Event Partnership grant, with Festival organisers expecting to draw 30,000 attendees this year marking a return to pre-COVID numbers.
The festival, a key part of the winter events calendar for many, is known for its vibrant celebration of singing and music, has already sold about 7,500 tickets and will feature 200 singers across more than 200 events.
Among these, 55 are ticketed, while the rest are free, ensuring a wide array of accessible entertainment for all.
“The Festival of Voices is a highlight of Hobart’s cultural calendar, bringing joy and vibrancy to our city,” said Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds.
“Our support underscores our commitment to fostering a creative and inclusive community. We are delighted to see the festival return to its full glory, welcoming visitors and locals alike.”
Festival of Voices Artistic Director Isobel Marmion said the team was thrilled to present Tassie’s biggest winter festival for 2024, which would spread joy and celebrate the power of song and the delight of music this winter.
“The program is brought to life with the support of many organisations, and we thank our financial partners — Events Tas and the City of Hobart — and festival volunteers for their continued support in bringing joy through music to the Tasmanian community,” Ms Marmion said.
Creative City Portfolio Chair Cr John Kelly said following on from the success of the City of Hobart Winter Feast, the Festival of Voices brought so much light to Hobart’s winter months.
“This festival not only enriches our cultural landscape but also boosts our local economy by attracting visitors to Hobart,” Cr Kelly said.
“The blend of ticketed and free events ensures there is something for everyone, enhancing our city’s reputation as a vibrant hub for the arts.”
The Festival of Voices has become a cornerstone of Hobart’s cultural scene, drawing performers - such as US star Macy Gray and former Australian Eurovision representative Montaigne - and audiences from near and far.
This event aligns perfectly with the City of Hobart’s winter campaign, City of Warm Hearts and Cool Adventures, which encourages people to explore and enjoy Hobart during the cooler months.
