Nelson Road roadworks
Published on 04 April 2018
The City of Hobart will undertake roadworks on Nelson Road in April and May, to make it safer for road users. We will undertake the works in stages, to limit the inconvenience to the public.
The works will take place from 129-142 Nelson Road. The works have been scheduled to start on 9 April, and will finish in mid-May, depending on weather conditions.
During school holidays (14–29 April), Nelson Road will be closed to traffic during working hours (7.30 am – 4.30 pm) while road works are undertaken. Residents whose properties are within the work area (bends 2-3) will be permitted to access their properties, but there will be some delays and parking restrictions.
Suggested detours include Proctors Road and the Southern Outlet.
The road will remain open for the rest of the project (9–13 April, 30 April – mid-May). Drivers should prepare to slow down, or stop when approaching the works which may add to their travel time.
Metro bus detour
During the road closure, some Metro bus routes will have to detour through Proctors Road. This is a temporary detour during the April school holiday period of approximately two weeks, when there is generally less traffic. The existing load limit for Proctors Road will remain, with Metro buses excepted.
The decision to detour Metro buses through Proctors Road was made following the successful completion of a safety audit by Metro last week. More information about the detour will be made available soon.
