Public meeting to be held over University relocation
A public meeting will be held before 11 May following a petition from the Save UTas Campus Inc group submitted to Council on 28 February 2022.
The meeting will be held at an applicable location to allow for COVID safety measures. Participants planning to attend in person will need to register and a live stream option will be made available.
Dark Mofo sponsorship
The City of Hobart has committed $150 000 to this year's Dark Mofo festival.
"We're really excited to see Dark Mofo coming back in full strength," Deputy Lord Mayor Burnett said. "And pleased to be a part of this exciting event on the Hobart and Tasmania calendar.
"With tourism continuing to bounce back from the challenges of the last two years, we really see Dark Mofo as another great reason for visitors to come back to our city this winter."
Alongside the $150 000 sponsorship, the City will also provide in-kind funding for equipment to assist the festival organisers in hosting the Winter Feast, as well as fee waivers for venue hire.
With the theme of Resurrection, Dark Mofo 2022 will run from Wednesday 8 June to Wednesday 22 June
Local Area Mobility Plan
In response to road safety concerns the intersection of Augusta Road and Haig Street in Lenah Valley will be investigated under the Local Area Mobility Plan processes.
Local Area Mobility Plans seek to improve accessibility within communities through the provision of a connected active transport network between frequent destinations such as schools, shopping precincts, recreation areas, and high-traffic bus stops.
A further report will be prepared outlining Local Area Mobility Plan processes and timeframes.
Pillinger Street transformer to remain in place
A TasNetworks transformer installed on a power pole in Dynnyrne will remain in place after it was deemed that the installation falls under the Electricity Supply Act 1995 and is therefore exempt from the need for planning approval.
A petition submitted to the Council meeting on 28 February 2022 requested that Council "withdraw the approval" to install the transformer.
Council resolved to establish a process with TasNetworks that will map future plans for infrastructure upgrades within the City in order to ensure good visual and community outcomes, particularly in heritage and high bushfire risk areas.
Ongoing support for community festivals and events
Council resolved to extend the City Partnerships grant agreements for a number of events between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023. The events include:
- Festa Italia
- Estia Greek Festival
- The Royal Hobart Regatta
- The Sandy Bay Regatta
- Hobart ANZAC Day Commemorations
- City of Hobart Eisteddfod
- Tasmanian Theatre Awards.
The City Partnerships program was developed in 2017-18 to support longstanding annual civic and cultural events to ensure long-term viability, and enable them to continue to add to the vibrancy of the City.
