Recycling glass in the City of Hobart
Published on 11 August 2017
There is a lot of community interest in recycling following a recent Four Corners' program.
The City of Hobart delivers an extensive recycling service to its residents and ratepayers.
All of Hobart's collected glass is recycled. It is crushed locally, with 80 per cent of it going into Island Block and Pavers’ products and 20 per cent is used in local civil construction works such as trench fill. If you've walked along the footpath upgrades in Liverpool and Morrison streets, then you're walking on the recycled product. The plastics are sent to SKM and sorted then bundled to be converted into recycled materials.
