Spring Spectacular of Daffodil, Camellia and Floral Art to brighten th

Hobart’s Town Hall welcomes the first Spring Floral Show of the year with Daffodil, Camellia and Floral Art being staged over two days from Friday 8 September 2017.
The event, being held by the Hobart Horticultural Society in conjunction with the City of Hobart, is an open invite to gardeners of all skill levels to showcase their floral works of art.
The Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Sue Hickey said she was expecting a wonderful display of daffodils, camellias, floral art and especially Bonsai.
“The Camellia Tasmania Society will stage a colourful display of Camellias and floral art is always a wonderful feature of the show. The arrangements are just gorgeous and are much admired and photographed by the public.
“Mr Colin Baird from Victoria will be judging the camellias and the Hobart Horticultural Society will be awarding the Jessup medal to the winner of the ’champion bloom’.
“I encourage the people of Hobart to come along to this free event and enjoy the talents of dedicated gardeners who will have their wonderful exhibits on display.
“People can also participate by exhibiting. There is no charge for exhibiting and members of the Society will be on hand to answer any questions for new exhibitors,” the Lord Mayor said.
President of the Hobart Horticultural Society Mary Crowe said that this year the show will feature a very special art event.
“On Saturday afternoon families are invited to come along and try their hand at painting under the guidance of artist Betty Nolan. , On both Friday and Saturday people can watch the very talented botanical artist Deborah Wace as she paints and produces prints in the hall.
“Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Salamanca will also be providing morning and afternoon teas at reasonable prices and we encourage as many people as possible to participate.
“You don’t have to be an expert to participate. There are a lot of novice classes for daffodils, camellias and floral art. There are sections for children to enter and we would love to see as many entries as possible,” Mrs Crowe said.

The Spring Show is staged over two days from Friday 8 September from 1-6pm and Saturday 9 September from 10am-4.30pm, with the official opening on Friday at 2pm.
