Hobart fuel reduction burns program continues
Published on 25 March 2020
A fuel reduction burn will go ahead at Ridgeway Park tomorrow (weather conditions permitting), as the City of Hobart proceeds with its autumn bushfire mitigation program.
“At this stage, we are able to proceed with these important bushfire management measures and we intend to carry out burns as scheduled,” General Manager Nick Heath said.
It will be the second burn of the fuel reduction season, which relies on cooler conditions and lighter winds.
“This time of year is the ideal time to carry out fuel reduction burns in the forests that surround Hobart,” Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said.
“It’s of great importance that we do not miss this opportunity to prepare for next summer, especially in light of the recent horrific Australian bushfire season.”
Tomorrow’s burn will cover an 18-hectare section of bushland at Ridgeway. Further burns are planned for Queens Domain and Porter Hill.
There may be intermittent road closures in the area to ensure public safety. Please be aware of the possibility of smoke in areas close to the burn site.
