Scan, submit, show to stay safe at market

Safety will be stepped up for marketgoers from this weekend, as Tasmania’s Own Market welcomes larger crowds and more stallholders.
The market – which is now permitted to host up to 4000 people at any time at Salamanca Place – is required to comply with new rules around contact tracing.
Anyone attending the market is encouraged to download the newly released Check in Tas app, which provides a single-step check-in for a range of events, venues and other locations around the state.
Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said it was important to put safety first if Tasmania is to keep its COVID-safe status.
“Contact tracing is now required by the Tasmanian Government for all events held in Tasmania,” Cr Reynolds said. “By complying with this process, we can all help to keep our community safe and make sure we can keep enjoying things like markets and events.”
A Check in Tas QR code will be located at the entry points to the market. For anyone who has already downloaded the app, it’s as simple as opening the app, scanning the QR code and presenting the completed check-in upon entry - just scan, submit, show and shop!
Paper forms will also be available for anyone who prefers more traditional methods and the market’s Safety Angels will be at the gate to provide assistance during the check-in process.
This week’s market will be larger than in previous weeks, with 222 stallholders on site. The size of the market site will also increase to accommodate more people while continuing to comply with physical distancing requirements.
Tasmania’s Own Market is at Salamanca Place every Saturday from 8.30am to 3pm.
This weekend’s market offerings include a photobombing Santa to create a truly “2020” festive photo.
