Market serves up all the fun of the Show

All the fun of the Show will be served up at Tasmania’s Own Market at Salamanca Place next weekend.

While the Royal Hobart Show is not proceeding this year, marketgoers can expect a taste of Show Day with rides, animals, games and – of course – Dagwood dogs.

Running from 8.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday 24 October, the Show Day market will feature 90 local stallholders alongside family-friendly Show staples at Salamanca Place.

The much-loved Tommy Choo Choo train (pic attached) will be at the market to give rides, thanks to the Rotary Club of Lindisfarne.

“The Rotary Club members have been repairing and restoring Tommy during the past few months and this will be the train’s first outing since the start of the pandemic,” Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said.

“The market will also have tea cup rides, laughing clowns, roving entertainment, baby goats and alpacas. Plus, you’ll be able to get all your Show favourites like donuts, fairy floss, toffee apples and Dagwood dogs.”

Tasmania’s Own Market has been operating since August, featuring a selection of Salamanca Market stallholders.

Under current restrictions, a maximum of 1000 people are permitted at the market at any one time.

“The market has been getting around 4500 people across the day, without exceeding the 1000-person limit at any time,” Cr Reynolds said. “It’s been a great way to support local small businesses and connect them with Tasmanian customers.”

The market’s Safety Angels will be on hand to help keep patrons Covid-safe and rides will be regularly cleaned and sanitised.
