All hands on deck for mountain clean-up day
Published on 31 March 2022
It will be all hands on deck this Saturday, April 2, as volunteers flock to the summit of Hobart's favourite mountain for this year's kunanyi/Mt Wellington Clean-up Day.
"At 1200 metres above sea level kunanyi/Mt Wellington often feels the full force of the roaring 40s, which can whip paper cups, tissues and even money out of people's hands, dumping the litter across the mountain top," Councillor Bill Harvey said.
"Last time we held a mountain clean-up day event volunteers collected 145kg of rubbish from kunanyi/Mt Wellington, and we're hoping we can do even better this year.
"In the past our volunteers have found all manner of items, including cash."
Those wishing to take part in this year's kunanyi/Mt Wellington Clean-up Day should meet at the summit carpark any time between 11 am and 1.30 pm, Saturday 2 April.
All volunteers should wear warm clothes and will need to register and receive a safety and heritage induction on arrival.
The event has been organised by the City of Hobart's Bushcare program.
