More stalls will cover a larger footprint over a longer trading period at Tasmania’s Own Market from this weekend.

From this Saturday, 170 stallholders will trade each week from 8.30am to 3pm (previously 1.30pm finish time), in line with the traditional market times.

The market footprint will be extended to accommodate the additional stalls and physical distancing requirements.

“In recent weeks, the market has been able to expand its capacity to 1000 people and this has been managed very well,” Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said.

“With Tasmania’s boarders now opening to most states, there are many stallholders who are excited to get back out trading regularly. We’re pleased to be able to offer that opportunity and help contribute to the economic recovery of our city and our state.”

COVID-19 safety measures will continue to be implemented, including the monitoring of patron numbers and provision of hand sanitiser. The market’s Safety Angels will also be on hand to help keep patrons safe.

Anyone feeling unwell or experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms is encouraged to do their market shopping from the comfort of their own home via the Salamanca Market online store.
