My Street

Streets around Hobart will be transformed into community celebrations with the launch of My Street, part of the City’s Out in the Open program.

Residents in the Hobart municipality are encouraged to band together and develop a proposal to host a local get-together in their neighbourhood.

Featuring roving entertainment, food vans, and more, each event will be a collaboration between the City of Hobart and residents of one or two local streets to come together and catch up and meet new people.

“My Street is a micro version of the good old street party,” Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said. “It’s a small, very local event involving the residents of one or two streets.”

The City will provide infrastructure as required, including all permits, traffic management, cleaning, COVID-safe plans, event staff, and even road closures if possible.

“In these COVID-affected times, we’ve spent so much time isolated and stuck at home, this is just a great opportunity to get out and about, let the kids run around in the fresh air, and celebrate local life in Hobart.” Cr Reynolds said.

“Each community is welcome to make their event look the way they like it, whether that’s a talent show, pet show, food-eating competitions, egg-and-spoon races or something else. We encourage everyone to get creative.”

Events can be held on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday between 23 April and 26 June 2022.

An organising group of at least three individuals from three different residences on a street or streets is required. EOIs need to be submitted at least four weeks prior to the proposed date, and will be assessed within ten days of being received.

More information, and the EOI form can be found at the City of Hobart’s Out in the Open website: hobartcity.com.au/out-in-the-open
