Rivulet debris trap renewal
To better protect Hobart from the impacts of major floods we are upgrading infrastructure designed to capture large logs before they can block and damage our stormwater system.
These vertical iron grills were installed on the Hobart Rivulet in the 1960s and are now showing signs of corrosion and the impacts of flood damage.
Work to replace them is scheduled to start on Monday 31 March, 2025, and is expected to take six weeks to complete.
Works will take place 7 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
Track closures
Some sections of the Hobart Rivulet Track will be temporarily closed to allow machinery to access the site.
Please follow all local instructions for your own safety.
Why this project matters
The Hobart Rivulet is an important natural waterway and plays a key role in our stormwater system.
The new galvanised steel grills are designed to last much longer than the old iron grills and will capture large trees or logs before they can damage our stormwater infrastructure.
This project will improve the reliability of Hobart’s flood protection infrastructure, ensuring the ongoing safety of the local community, businesses and environment.
