Sandy Bay Seawall Balustrade Replacement
The City of Hobart is replacing the seawall balustrade on Sandy Bay Road, from the Casino to the Maning Avenue Reserve.
The project is now approximately half completed, and the wall is progressing well. Some images have been included below.
Why is the wall being replaced?
The seawall is getting old and falling into disrepair, and needs to be replaced for public safety.
The steps leading to the beach between the casino and the Maning Avenue Reserve will also be upgraded, which may cause some disruptions to beach access.
What will the new wall look like?
The new wall will be sturdier than the existing balustrade, and will be dark grey in colour.
When will the project start?
The works will start on Monday 16 April, and will take about 6 months to complete.
Will there be road closures or loss of pedestrian access?
Sandy Bay Road will not be closed during this project.
Pedestrian access will be maintained along the footpath, and there will be minimal disruption to traffic on Sandy Bay Road.
Some parking spaces located on Sandy Bay Road, between the Casino and Maning Avenue Reserve will be unavailable during construction. We will minimise the loss of parking as much as possible during the works.
