Swan Street Park

This City of Hobart has turned Swan Street Park into a vibrant open air space that will is perfect for picnics and lunch breaks.

The plans for this park redevelopment were refined after community feedback revealed people wanted a space with more seating and green spaces, as well as a small, fenced play area.

This project has:

created an amphitheatre style urban street park
included pockets of space for smaller groups to make their own
incorporated a special play area for kids with a mini-maze that doubles as seating
included plenty of seating
seen the planting of trees to increase Hobart's urban street canopy and provide shade for visitors.

The Swan Street Park project was jointly funded by the Australian Government and Hobart City Council with the Australian Government providing funding of $551 303 through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.

The land is owned by the Uniting Church of Australia and maintained by the City of Hobart.

Community consultation

The plans for Swan Street Park were created through a Have Your Say community engagement process.

That process led to the following changes being made to the initial design:

Additional seating and green spaces.
Addition of a small fenced play space.
Reconfiguration of space to create more independent spaces suitable for smaller groups.
Design changes to create a filled, activated pace that the community can play, meet and enjoy daily.
